Target's Big Save

In order to compete with Warehouse giants Sam's Club and Costco, Target stores are devoting their seasonal department to bulk purchase items for the next six weeks. This is the area in the store where you'll typically find the Back-to-School supplies and Christmas goodies. For the past few years, they've devoted that space to their Global Market products in January. This year, they're going the frugal route.

I was there this week and noticed it. There was a group of college girls there giddy with excitement over the prices and stocking up for their apartment. I didn't know about the "treasure hunt" items, otherwise I may have given it a closer look.

"Target is following Costco's lead, and is interspersing treasure hunt items in its Great Save. In roughly 1,000 of its stores, the retailer will sell goods from designers not typically offered, such as polo shirts from Ralph Lauren and T-shirts by Calvin Klein."
